Bright Colors and A Hair Cut! Looking Good, Hollywood!

A style all his own

No matter the situation, my dad brought his style with him. When he was at work, he rocked his. 501s, denim shirt, and steeled toe boots. It looked good on him!

When he first got sick he was confused about where he was, but I could always tell where he thought he was by the style he wore. If he was in jeans and a denim shirt, I knew it was going to be a long day of work at the paper mill. However wearing a collared shirt and golf shorts, meant he was ready to get his clubs and hit the course.

The day I took his 501s out of the closet was a tough one.

Even though he may not wear Levi’s anymore, he is still making a fashion statement. He loves his bright colored shorts and shirts. No matter what, dad notices everything his visitors wear. (He may even try to talk you out of your newest sneakers.)

Each night I walk in the door for a visit, he greets me in that same unforgettable style, “There is my beautiful baby girl.” It doesn’t take long before he lets me know what he thinks about my fashion choices of the day. If I come from work in a bright colored dress, I always get rave reviews. On the other hand, if I visit later in the evening after changing into “comfy” clothes, he usually offers me clothes from his closet.

Par for The Course

This week when I went straight from work to eat dinner with him, I was greeted with the biggest smile but, It didn’t take long for him to check out my outfit. (I was wearing a denim shirt and a great pair of lime linen pants.) I asked him if he liked my bright colored pants. He said, “Yea, but what’s wrong with them? They’re so wrinkled.” I tried to tell him they were linen and they wrinkle easily. He came back with, “That don’t sound right!”

Boy! Didn’t that sound familiar! I can’t remember how many times he sent us back into the house to give him our clothes to iron before we could leave.

He gave me one of those looks. I knew he wasn’t buying it. (I really had ironed them, I promise) I conceded to his critique and asked, “Should I use spray starch and a hotter iron next time?” With his best ‘Captain Obvious’ look he could muster, he told me it might help.

Believe it or not! I left that night with the biggest smile on my face. It is not every visit I get such a wonderful glimpse of my DAD and his unforgettable style.
